  • Why did you change my channels?
    • In today’s world, the TV landscape is ever evolving. TV technology is moving from an analogue format to a digital format. These channel changes support Shaw’s evolution to digital.
    • Digital technology allows us to offer more channels and programming over our network. Ten digital channels can be offered in the place of one analogue channel.
    • Freeing up analogue channels and converting these to digital channels allow us to grow channels and programming, bringing more choice and an enriched TV viewing experience to customers. More HD services and Shaw Video On Demand content will also be available with a broader digital network.
     
  • I’m a Speed and/or Encore Avenue 2 customer. Why can I no longer get my channel?
    • Speed and Encore Avenue 2 have transitioned to digital services. TV technology is evolving from an analogue format to a digital format. These channel changes support Shaw’s evolution to digital.
    • This is a great opportunity for you to transition to our digital services which are the way of the future.
    • Digital technology allows us to offer more channels and programming over our network. Ten digital channels can be offered in the place of one analogue channel.
    • Freeing up analogue channels and converting these to digital channels allow us to grow channels and programming, bringing more choice and an enriched TV viewing experience to customers.
    • Transitioning to digital brings you additional Digital Basic channels, digital music, access to Shaw Video On Demand and Pay Per View, and access to many other great services such as free Speed VOD shows.

    • Today's TV landscape is changing more than ever. TV technology is evolving from an analogue format to a digital format. These channel changes support Shaw’s digital transition plans that will enrich choice and customers’ viewing experience.
     
  • Will this change impact my bill?

    If you’re a digital or high-definition Shaw Television customer: 

    • No, these changes will not have an impact on your monthly bill. Your channel may just be in a new location.

    If you are impacted by Encore Avenue 2 and Speed moving, you may choose to go digital:  

    • Initially, there will be no impact to your bill. We are pleased to offer you a seamless introduction to digital and an opportunity to continue viewing your favourite channels through a complimentary Shaw Digital Box for 12 months. After the introductory period, the rental charge on a Digital Box is $2.95 per month.
    • Transitioning to digital brings you additional Digital Basic channels, digital music, access to Shaw Video On Demand and Pay Per View, and access to many other great services such as free Speed VOD content.
     
  • Will my PVR recordings be affected by this change?
    • Recordings set on the channels that are moving will not be impacted. Your recordings will move with the new channel locations.
    • Please note Parental Controls and Channel Favourites may be impacted by the change, so make sure to update your settings.
     
  • Why didn’t I hear about this change?
    • We are sorry to hear that you were not aware of these changes. We do take actions to inform as many customers as possible of these changes. For example, channel change information was shared in newspapers and online on our website.
     
  • Why is Canada switching to over-the-air (OTA) digital television? What is this all about?
    • On Aug. 31, 2011, Canadian local television stations in certain areas will have to broadcast digital over-the-air TV signals instead of analogue signals. These changes are taking place in markets with more than 300,000 people, provincial/territorial capitals and cities with more than one television station.
    • One of the main reasons for switching to digital television is the need for more spectrum, commonly referred to as frequencies or airwaves. Spectrum is used for services such as wireless telephone services and emergency communications.
    • Digital signals use less airwave space than analogue signals. This means the freed-up space can be used for other services that have a high demand for more space. Digital technology also provides better picture and sound.
     
  • Will I be impacted by this change to OTA digital television?
    • As a Shaw Television customer, you will not be directly impacted by this transition. Shaw already has the technology in place so we can continue to deliver these services to you. Those that do not subscribe to a TV provider and watch TV via antennas may be impacted by the transition.
    • Similar to how Canada is transitioning to digital to gain capacity, so is Shaw. This means there will be changes to your services in the future. But don’t worry, we’ll ensure you are well informed and will work closely with you through the changes. Ultimately, this will enrich your viewing choice and experience.
     
  • Why did my multicultural channels move?
    • All multicultural services were moved from the 100s to the 500s. This change happened so we can add more multicultural channels in the future while keeping all language-specific channels grouped together in the channel lineup.
    • We recognize the inconvenience right now; however, these moves are designed to bring you more convenience in the future as more multicultural channels are added and located all together.
    • There will not be any change to your invoice related to these channel moves.
