Adrian Bercovici remembers as a youngster how important a healthy hot meal was to get through a school day. When Adrian learned that some students were nodding off in class because they were running low on energy, Generations Foundation was launched in 1999. This charity introduced food programs in schools to provide children the necessary nutrition to be successful at school and to assist youth in becoming more self-sufficient. In addition to providing low income youth with nourishment at school, the Foundation sponsors cooking classes and afterschool food programs for homework and sports.
Other important programs were launched. Hundreds of children each year are sent to summer day camp and at graduation, laptop computers are awarded to community-minded students to help further their education. New toys are distributed to thousands of children in December along with food baskets to families.
Under the direction of Adrian Bercovici, the Foundation continues to provide a variety of meals without charge: breakfast, hot lunch and a snack daily for over 8,500 school children in 110 schools and learning centers in Montreal and vicinity.
“Shaw’s recognition award bestowed upon me as one of The Top 50 Canadians is definitely uplifting and encouraging while, at the same time, their generosity will benefit my charity’s children and their families,” says Adrian.
