Meet our Outstanding Canadians: Joan Holland

Joan is a retired nurse who has dedicated her life to the service of others in a volunteer capacity at the Ronald McDonald House and the Calgary Police Service, always ensuring that the welfare of others, especially those finding themselves in troubling times, is paramount. Joan volunteers with Victim’s Assistance with the Calgary Police Service where she contacts victims of personal crime or tragedy offering case and court information updates, emotional support, and referrals to community agencies for counselling bereavement and other appropriate support agencies. She is often on-call and on standby to provide necessary support to victims as needed.

Joan also volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta, filling countless hours as the warm and welcoming face to families who walk through the door of the House each day. She is the friendly greeter, the efficient host who checks families in and out the House, and answers all the phone calls that come in. Every person she meets would benefit from the gentle yet knowledgeable guidance offered by Joan.
