Meet our Outstanding Canadians: Natasha Kostenuk

Natasha has been involved in the community for many years having sat on boards for the community playschool and her daughter’s skating club. When her last child was diagnosed with Apraxia, a severe speech disorder, Natasha became a strong advocate for her son and, along the way, encountered many roadblocks in her attempts to help him. Her passion to help others led her to create a local non-profit organization to help other families with children who have Apraxia.

Natasha strives to help families navigate the existing funding and support programs they can access and provides information sessions for families to connect. In addition, her organization strives to provide help to families affected by Apraxia for little to no cost. In the summer of 2016, she created a summer camp for kids with Apraxia, which is run by speech language pathologists. The summer camps are full of language-rich activities that the children can enjoy along with peers that have similar communication challenges.
