Meet our Outstanding Canadians: Sandra Webster-Worthy

Sandra Webster-Worthy is the founder and director of PACE Musical theatre program in the Sooke School District. Every Sunday, from 1-9 pm, more than 350 students grades K-12 participate in vocal, dance and acting rehearsals to prepare for two major productions and over 20 annual performances.

This program is unique in that students do not have to audition. At PACE, there is a place onstage for everyone – regardless of experience, challenges, abilities or disabilities. Committed volunteer dance and singing teachers work with students to ensure skill development and push for very high – in fact nearly professional – standards of performance. With more than 50 parent, grandparent and community volunteers, and students ranging in age from 4-18 years, PACE creates a family environment and a true sense of belonging. It is not surprising that once they attend their first rehearsal, PACE students typically stay in the program until they graduate. It is also not surprising that students refer to PACE as their second family.
