Television

AMI-audio

AMI-audio is a broadcast reading service, a network on which volunteers read and record full-text spoken-word versions of current articles from leading newspapers and magazines. The channel makes local, regional, national and international news available to viewers who are blind and vision-restricted, who have learning disabilities or have physical and motor-skill disabilities.

  • To use AMI-audio, you need to activate the SAP/MTS on your TV. Your remote control should have a button that says MTS or SAP.
  • You also can tune into the CBC News Network and AMI-audio service will be heard.

Keyboard Options (Windows 7)

You can configure your keyboard to slow down its functionality, making your computer easier to use. Just follow these steps and choose which options work best for you:

1. Click Start on the bottom left corner of your screen.
2. On the Start menu, click on Control Panel.
3. In the Control Panel folder, click on Ease of Access.
4. Under Ease of Access Center, click on Change how your keyboard works.
5. Choose the display options you prefer. These options include:

  • Mouse Keys
This feature allows you to use the numeric keypad to move the mouse pointer.
  • Sticky Keys
Sometimes you have to hold SHIFT, ALT or CTRL while pressing another key. If you have difficulty holding down two or more keys at the same time, Sticky Keys will help you perform some functions on your computer. Sticky Keys will allow you to press SHIFT, ALT or CTRL first and then press the other key.
  • Filter Keys
Enabling Filter Keys tells your computer to ignore quick, brief keystrokes or to slow down the repeat rate. If you have difficulty double clicking on icons, use this option and your computer will wait for you.
  • Toggle Keys
If you enable Toggle Keys, your computer will make sound when you hit Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll Lock. The tone sounds different depending on whether you are turning the lock on or off.
