As part of our long legacy of community support, Brighter Communities powered by Shaw offers charitable grants focused on health and wellbeing, education, entrepreneurship and digital literacy.

$1 million during the pandemic

We’ve provided over $1 million to support communities as they navigate through the challenges of the pandemic.

Over $40 million annually

Every year, Shaw invests over $40 million in communities through cash donations and other resources.

More than 200 organizations

We have supported over 200 organizations in more than 125 communities, and counting.

Through Brighter Communities, Shaw donates to local organizations and charities who support children and youth with health and wellbeing, education, entrepreneurship or digital literacy. Sound like you? Here are the details:

  • Your organization must be registered with the CRA
  • You must directly provide programming for children and youth in the community
  • Your organization must not be religious, sectarian, or political, except where they represent non-denominational community and social support services

Pathways to Education

Vancouver/Surrey, British Columbia

Pathways gives youth equal opportunities to graduate from high school and build confidence and resources for the future. Shaw has helped Pathways bring graduation within reach for high school students through academic, financial, social, and one-on-one resources.

Shaw’s history is rooted in entrepreneurship. We strongly believe that diversity amongst entrepreneurs and small businesses is what will allow the next generation of thinkers and doers to flourish. That’s why we support young entrepreneurs by providing the tools, resources and networks that can bring their businesses to life.

Lil E Coffee Cafe

Calgary, Alberta

This inspiring non-profit business hires people with developmental or intellectual disabilities such as Down Syndrome and Autism to help them develop meaningful career and life skills. Shaw has provided employment support for Lil E’s employees.

We support programs that give access to devices and improve digital skills so youth can get the most out of technology that can transform their lives. We’ve also helped keep low-income families connected with laptop library programs—helping them access the resources they need to participate in the digital economy. And, we’ve reduced barriers by supplying local care homes with the devices they need to stay connected to loved ones during the pandemic.

Through Brigher Communities, Shaw donated over $50 000 to Vancouver charities in partnership with Canada’s largest 10K road race. One of these charities was Arts Umbrella, which supports arts education for young people in Vancouver, and inspires children and youth to build community through creativity.

Due to the pandemic, BCHL teams could not hold their usual fundraising events for local organizations. Shaw partnered with 17 teams across BC to launch a Brighter Communities text-to-donate campaign to support local charities. Together, we rallied people across the province and donated almost $50 000 to local organizations helping children and youth.
